DISTRICT 10-4A VOLLEYBALL: Poteet splits a pair of matches to remain in tie for fourth

Poteet had a chance on Tuesday to move into the upper echelon of teams in 10-4A but was unable to take down Carrollton Creekview, who went on to a 25-9, 25-7, 25-14 victory.
The loss drops the Pirates to 3-3 in district play, leaving them in a tie for fourth place with Carrollton Newman Smith, which has won its last three matches.
Poteet had taken care of business on Friday, handling Terrell in a 25-12, 25-20, 25-9 victory.
It was a rough week for West Mesquite as it slipped to 1-5 in 10-4A with a 25-11, 25-12, 25-9 loss to Highland Park on Tuesday.
The Wranglers also dropped a 25-7, 25-17, 25-22 decision to Carrollton Newman Smith on Friday.
West Mesquite needs to start stringing together some victories if it hopes to climb back into the playoff picture, but this will be a rough week to do so against two of the top teams in the district.
The Wranglers will go on the road to face Carrollton Creekview on Friday and then play at Forney on Tuesday.
As the district reaches its halfway point, Highland Park took control of the district race on Friday with a 21-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22 victory over Carrollton Creekview.
That win, coupled with a sweep of West Mesquite on Tuesday, moves the Scots to 6-0 in district play, giving them a one-game lead over both Carrollton Creekview and Forney.
Friday will be a huge match as far as the 10-4A standings are concerned, as Highland Park will host the Jackrabbits with sole possession of first place at stake.
