DSO presents Divine Dvorák
Staff reports
Tickets are on sale now for Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) performances of Divine Dvorák, Oct. 18-21 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Dallas.
The performance features music director Jaap van Zweden and cello soloist Narek Hakhnazaryan in a program of music by Antonín Dvoák.
The program includes "Cello Concerto" and "Symphony No. 7."
Be moved by the dramatic Cello Concerto by Czech composer, Antonín Dvorák and young star soloist Narek Hakhnazaryan. Throughout the piece, the cello is balanced by the rich sounds of the orchestra. The theme is revisited several times during the three movements. The second movement is a musical monument of Dvorák's sister-in-law, who became gravely ill near the start of his work on the concerto. The finale softly and elegantly closes the showpiece, until the last few measures when the sound grows into an exciting and beautiful ending.
Dvorák's Seventh Symphony is one of his most popular and emotional compositions. Movement is a Czech dance that lightens the mood of the symphony, before returning to its ominous state. In the final movement, Dvoák transforms the somber mood into a brilliant and thrilling conclusion.
Current ticket prices start at $21.
