Horn too much for Tyler Lee in district-opening win

Published: Sunday, September 30, 2012 11:12 PM CDT
Horn quarterback Destri White scored his team's first touchdown of the district season with his legs.

By the time White capped the Jaguar scoring effort with his arm, Tyler Lee had long been left behind.

Horn used an unrelenting running attack, some timely throws from White and a strong defensive effort to coast over the Red Raiders for a 49-24 victory on Friday in the 12-5A opener for both teams at Rose Stadium in Tyler.

The Jaguars improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in district play, while Tyler Lee slips to 1-4 and 0-1.

Horn took a 7-0 lead when White scampered into the end zone from nine yards out and it remained that way until the second quarter, when the two teams combined for 38 points.

White padded the lead with a 20-yard scoring run but the Red Raiders answered on Marcus White's touchdown run to close to within 14-7.

The Jaguars struck back almost immediately, as White found Jacob Meyer open for a 27-yard touchdown that made it 21-7.

Horn then turned to its ground assault of Jay'lyn Lynch and Treyvon Marsh, who combined for more than 200 yards.

Marsh scored on a 12-yard run and Lynch hit paydirt from six yards out, and despite a late field goal by Tyler Lee, the Jaguars carried a commanding 35-10 lead into halftime.

Horn erased any hopes of a Red Raider comeback in the third quarter. Marsh scored on a short touchdown run and White found Justyn Oliphant open on an 8-yard scoring strike to push the margin to 49-14.

Tyler Lee tacked on a couple of touchdowns late in the fourth quarter, but it was far too little.
