McKinney Christian Tripped by Temple Christian

Published: Monday, October 1, 2012 8:42 AM CDT
McKinney Christian’s football team dropped to 1-3 for the season, after a 28-23 loss to the Temple Christian Eagles in a game featuring wide momentum swings.  Despite being three touchdowns behind in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs used big special teams plays to help pull within five points late in the fourth quarter.  Ultimately the deficit was too large as the Eagles held on to win the game.

Temple scored in the first quarter by taking advantage of good field position following a short punt.  Quarterback Conner Moore took the 1 yard plunge in for the score.  Josh Ford was good on the point after.

The Mustangs scored twice to take a second quarter lead.  Fierce defense forced a punt from TCS’ own end zone giving MCA good field position, leading to Connor Doyle’s 27 yard touchdown run.  Caleb Wysong’s PAT tied the game at 7-7.   The first half ended with MCA leading 10-7 following Wysong’s 24 yard field goal.

Temple’s 61 yard drive opened second half scoring as Justin Carter broke a 29 yard touchdown run.  Ford’s conversion made it 14-10.  The Eagles scored the next time they touched the ball when Moore hit James Harrell for a 45 yard scoring strike.  Ford’s PAT made it 21-10.

The Eagles looked like they were going to break the game open by scoring on their third consecutive possession when Moore hit wideout Spencer Starling with a 29 yard pass just seconds into the fourth quarter.   Ford’s point after put the Eagles ahead by three touchdowns. Then, MCA’s Connor Doyle energized the crowd by returning the kickoff 87 yard for a touchdown.  Wysong’s PAT made it 28-17.  The two teams exchanged possessions until a punt block by Ben Bajema, which was returned by Jacob Weideman to TCS’ 5 yard line, set up MCA’s offense.  Doyle scored from there, narrowing the gap to 28-23 where the score remained after a failed two-point conversion.

After a bye next week, the Mustangs take on the Texas Christian Academy Stars the following week at 7:30 p.m. at McKinney North.
