Chargers stomp Fort Worth Christian, 41-7, look ahead to bye week

Dallas Christian built a 34-0 halftime lead and never looked back on Friday as it cruised to a 41-7 victory over Fort Worth Christian.
The Chargers, who improved to 3-0 on the season, held Fort Worth Christian to 155 yards and did not surrender a score until the final quarter.
The offense, meanwhile, provided more than enough support.
Dallas Christian poured it on in the second, as Cannon scored on runs of eight and one yards and Craig threw a short touchdown pass to Hayden Baker to push the lead to 34-0 at halftime.
The Chargers hit the brakes in the second half, with Craig's 39-yard touchdown pass to Baker providing their only points.
Fort Worth Christian finally got on the scoreboard on a touchdown run by Hunter Smiley in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.
Dallas Christian now gets some time to rest up before the start of TAPPS District 2-II play starts on Sept. 28.
The Chargers have been dominant thus far, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 132-14, but they know the road will get much tougher.
Five of the eight district teams are undefeated thus far, including Tyler Grace Community, the team Dallas Christian will host in the 2-II opener next week.
CROSS COUNTRY
While neither the Dallas Christian boys or girls fielded a full team, there were a handful of athletes who competed at the Lake Highlands Invitational at Norbuck Park last Saturday.
The Chargers were represented by four male runners, led by Riley Holder, who took 23rd overall.
Jack Oduro finished 29th, Alec Covin was 43rd and Thomas Watson took 63rd place.
On the girls side, Melanie Johnson had a solid effort in taking 14th overall, while teammate Ashley Webb was 46th.
Ursuline won the team competition in the Class 1A-3A group, while Ovilla Christian claimed first place on the boys side.
VOLLEYBALL
Dallas Christian was swept in a TAPPS District 2-II match on Tuesday by Carrollton Prince of Peace. The Chargers played better as the match progressed, but still suffered a 25-13, 25-17, 25-18 sweep.
Dallas Christian is scheduled to play at Shelton on Tuesday.
