DISTRICT 10-4A VOLLEYBALL: Pirates bounce back with rally past North Forney

Following a stinging loss to Carrollton Newman Smith on Friday, Poteet knew it could ill-afford to have any lingering effects when it returned to the court against North Forney on Tuesday.
As the second half of the 10-4A season gets underway, the Pirates are in the middle of a heated battle with the Trojans for a playoff spot, and losing to a team near the bottom of the standings is a recipe for disaster as far as the postseason is concerned.
For one game, Poteet was in danger of doing to just that, but it righted the ship in time, and was able to secure a 22-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-21 victory over North Forney.
The Scots, who are now 8-0, have a one-game lead over Carrollton Creekview, which defeated Terrell on Tuesday, and a two-game advantage over Forney, which was a winner over West Mesquite.
The victory for Poteet was a good remedy to a heartbreaking setback on Friday. With a chance to take control of sole possession of fourth place, the Pirates won the first two games, only to watch the Trojans rally for a 23-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-11 victory.
It was a difficult week for West Mesquite, as the Wranglers fell to 1-7 after being swept by Carrollton Creekview on Friday and Forney on Tuesday.
There is still plenty of time for teams to make a move and Poteet can do just that on Friday when it plays at third-place Forney. The Pirates will also play at West Mesquite on Tuesday.
If Poteet can put together an undefeated week, it could put the pressure on Newman Smith, which must play Creekview on Friday and Forney on Tuesday.
