Lone Star keeps rolling

When Frisco Lone Star and Van Alstyne met last season, the Rangers were handed a 37-14 loss.

Lone Star got even Friday night with a 56-21 victory from FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco.

Quarterback Will Campbell led the Rangers with a dominant game through the air. Campbell threw for 305 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions after completing 19-of-28 attempts.

The gunslinger also added 22 yards and a score on the ground to lead Lone Star’s revenge game.

The Rangers began the game strong with a pair of Campbell touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 35-7 halftime lead.

The victory was Lone Star’s fourth in as many games this season and the Rangers will look to make it a 5-0 mark after traveling to Anna tonight for a 7:30 p.m. kick off.

Frisco, Heritage among state’s best

Texastrack.com released its 2012 cross country rankings for all classifications and Frisco ISD is well-represented in Class 4A.

The Frisco and Heritage girls teams both cracked the top-10 with Frisco coming in at ninth and Heritage ranked at No. 10.

Highland Park, Canyon and Cedar Park led the list.

No Frisco ISD boys teams cracked the current rankings.

Americans sign another forward

The Allen Americans inked forward Ryley Grantham to a deal for the 2012-13 season Friday.

The 24-year-old Grantham, who was selected in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames, played for first-year Allen head coach Steve Martinson with the Chicago Express of the ECHL last season. Grantham had 11 points and 75 penalty minutes.

“Ryley is a tough, physical forward with great hands,” Martinson said. “I expect him to score goals, make plays and be a tough forward to play against.”

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder played junior hockey for three seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League. Grantham then moved to the ECHL, playing for the Gwinnett Gladiators and Utah Grizzlies. Grantham also played 89 games with the Abbotsford Heat of the AHL.

Grantham may head back to that level as he has been invited to training camp with the Houston Aeros, the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.
