Allen takes silver at Jesuit
With just two weeks until the District 10-5A Cross Country Meet, the Allen girls got a leg up on a number of district foes Saturday.
Running from Norbuck Park in Dallas, the Lady Eagles placed second overall at the Dallas Jesuit Classic (70 points), outdone only by Plano West (48).
The Allen boys placed 11th (331 points).
Allen was led by Katherine Allen in third place (19:17.50), Maggie Gaudio in sixth (19:35.60) and Hailey Jensen in 12th (19:56.10). Jacob Pena paced the boys squad with a 31st-place run (17:03.20).
Both teams will enjoy one final tune-up before the district meet Saturday at 9 a.m. from Samuell Park for the Mesquite Poteet Invitational.
Eagles tennis snags No. 4 seed
Allen tennis wrapped up its district season with a win Tuesday afternoon.
The team's 15-4 victory over Plano Senior was important as it secured the No. 4 seed and homecourt advantage for the first round of the District 10-5A Tournament.
Allen stormed out to a 6-1 lead in doubles.
The Eagles continued to bring the pressure in singles where the girls won 5-of-6 matches. Those triumphs included straight-set victories from Nicole Goodman (No. 1), Besa Bwalya (No. 3), Kari Helgeson (No. 4), Janesse Birdsong (No. 5) and Jessica Limjuco (No. 6).
The boys won the bulk of their matches as well.
The Eagles took 4-of-6 in singles with wins courtesy of Josh McKinney (No. 3), Nick Pena (No. 4), Daniel Betten (No. 5) and Andrew Ho (No. 6). The lone match to go three sets was at No. 4 with Pena dropping the second, but bouncing back to cruise in the tiebreak, 10-4.
Advantages gleaned Tuesday could be valuable as the Eagles host the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. Monday in the first round of the 10-5A tourney.
The winner will play 12-time defending district champion Plano West in Tuesday's semifinals.
Lady Leopards continue to roll
The past week of district destruction was nothing new for the Lovejoy volleyball team.
What was notable, however, was the Lady Leopards qualifying for the playoffs.
Lovejoy (36-4 overall, 10-0 in District 13-4A) officially clinched a spot in the postseason Tuesday night with a sweep of Royse City (25-10, 25-6, 25-15). The Lady Leopards have yet to drop a set in district, but Royse City was one of two teams (along with Wylie East) to reach the 20s in a set the first time the squads played.
Tuesday's win was the second sweep in the past week for Lovejoy after pasting Greenville (25-11, 25-14, 25-8) on Friday.
The Lady Leopards are back in action at 5:30 p.m. Friday, hosting McKinney North.
Top wakeboarders come to town
Sixteen of the top wakeboarders in the world will be in Allen Friday.
The top pro riders will be at the Hydrous Wakepark in Allen Station at 6:30 p.m. for the first Hydrous Night Slider Championship.
Pros will battle it out and perform their hardest stunts on some of the sport's most technical rails to date. In addition to the competition, there will be games, pro rider meet and greets, live art showings, a live DJ and a Red Bull event truck.
The pro rider meet and greet starts at 5:30 p.m. with the competition commencing at 6:30 p.m.

State championship tickets on sale
Tickets for the UIL Football State Championships are now on sale.
Set to return to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington for another year, the state championship games will feature Classes 1A-5A.
Both the Division I and II 5A title tilts will be played Dec. 22, at 4 p.m. (Div. II) and 8 p.m. (I), and will cost $15 per person. The ticket allows admittance to all games that day, which includes the 4A Div. I Championship.
Tickets can be purchased online through Ticketmaster.com.
