Late Surge: Horn reels off 31 unanswered points to run away from Rockwall

Published: Thursday, October 11, 2012 4:01 PM CDT
For nearly three quarters, Horn looked every part of the upset victim.

The Jaguars allowed underdog Rockwall to hang around and entertain ideas of pulling out a victory.

And then, in a matter of minutes, Horn pulled the rug out from beneath the Yellow Jackets.

The Jaguars ran off 31 unanswered points late in the game to turn a deficit into a blowout 45-21 victory on Friday at E.H. Hanby Stadium.

Horn improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in 12-5A play heading into Friday's showdown with Mesquite, while Rockwall sinks further in the district's playoff race as it falls to 1-5 and 0-2.

Things did not look good for the Jaguars after Barron Black picked off a pass and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown that gave the Yellow Jackets a 21-14 lead in the third quarter.

It was all Horn from there.

Destri White threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Brian O'Bannon to tie the game and Michael Sylvester booted a field goal to give the Jaguars a 24-21 lead going to the fourth quarter.

Horn poured it on from there.

Treyvon Marsh scored on a 21-yard touchdown run and O'Bannon hauled in a 36-yard scoring strike from White to give them a 38-21 lead.

Marsh provided the icing on the cake when he busted loose for a 63-yard touchdown run to provide the final margin.

Horn racked up more than 500 yards of total yardage, with more than 350 coming on the ground. Marsh led the way, rushing for 243 yards and four touchdowns, the first of which answered a scoring run by Zach Berryman to tie the game at 7-7 going into halftime.

The scoring picked up in the third quarter, as Rockwall blocked a punt and recovered for a score to take the lead.

Marsh countered with a 63-yard touchdown run, but the Yellow Jackets were temporarily in control after Black's interception for a score gave them a 21-14 lead.

But it was all Horn from there, as they dominated the last 18 minutes and set up a showdown with the Skeeters this week.
