DISTRICT 10-4A VOLLEYBALL: Pirates takes care of business, moves back into fourth place

Poteet knows what it needs to do at this point in the season.
Even if the Pirates are unable to take down one of the top three teams in the district, if they can take care of business against the remainder of their schedule, that will set up an end-of-the-year battle with Carrollton Newman Smith for the fourth and final playoff berth from 10-4A.
So even after a tough four-game loss to Forney on Friday, Poteet did what it needed to on Tuesday with a 25-15, 25-9, 25-21 sweep of crosstown rival West Mesquite to even its district mark at 5-5.
Poteet has a difficult chore on Friday when it will host undefeated district-leader Highland Park, but it does get a break on Tuesday when it takes on winless Terrell.
Newman Smith will take on that same last-place Terrell team on Friday before traveling to play West Mesquite, which has taken on the role of spoiler, on Tuesday.
Highland Park continues to lead the way in the district pack, as two more wins improved them to 10-0 with a one-game lead over Carrollton Creekview, which is 9-1. Forney is solidly in third place with a 8-2 record.
This is a big week as far as the top of the standings are concerned, particularly for Creekview, which travels to play at Forney on Friday with second place on the line before it heads to Highland Park for a potential showdown for the top spot in 10-4A.
