With the upset bug biting several local teams this week, Poteet refused to fall victim, as it opened a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 41-14 victory over Forney on Friday at City Bank Stadium.
The Pirates knew they were taking on a tough opponent as the Jackrabbits had been a nemesis in recent years, but they were in no mood on Friday.
James Swindle opened the scoring with a short touchdown run and Anthony Jenkins followed with a 10-yard scoring run to make it 14-0.
Just a few minutes later, Tanner Ramsey threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Kody Edwards that gave the Pirates a commanding 21-0 advantage going to the second quarter.
Forney tried to claw back into it after a blocked punt resulted in a touchdown but Poteet had an immediate answer.
Two of them, in fact.
Ramsey threw a touchdown pass to Buck Rodges and Rodney Douglas broke the game open with a 69-yard touchdown run that gave the Pirates a 34-7 lead at halftime.
The Jackrabbits crept a little closer with a score in the third quarter but Poteet put the game away for good when Jaylon Smith scored on a 9-yard touchdown run to provide the final margin.
