DISTRICT 12-5A VOLLEYBALL: Mesquite ISD teams endure rough week

The three Mesquite ISD volleyball teams in 12-5A took on the district leaders this past week and it did not turn out very well.
Mesquite, North Mesquite and Horn combined to post a 0-5 record and they remain in a virtual deadlock for the fourth and final playoff berth.
The Skeeters dropped a 25-15, 25-23, 25-7 decision to Rockwall on Tuesday, and coupled with a loss to Rockwall-Heath on Friday, they fell to 2-6 in district play.
That puts Mesquite in a tie for fourth place with Horn. The Jaguars were idle on Tuesday after suffering a 25-17, 25-9, 25-7 setback to Rockwall on Friday.
North Mesquite, which fell to the Hawks in a 25-14, 25-20, 25-10 loss on Tuesday, is a half-game back at 2-7, with Longview also still in the picture at 1-7.
Rockwall-Heath clinched a playoff berth with its win over Mesquite on Tuesday and remains perfect in district play with a 9-0 record.
Tyler Lee and Rockwall are tied for second at 7-2 and they can each clinch a playoff berth with one more victory.
As the season hits the homestretch, every match is critical, particularly for the MISD schools.
Horn will face Mesquite on Friday in a huge match that will see the winner move into sole possession of fourth place.
Both teams will face tough challenges on Tuesday, as the Jaguars will host Rockwall-Heath while the Skeeters will face Tyler Lee.
North Mesquite has a tough test on Friday against Rockwall before traveling for a must-win contest against last-place Longview on Tuesday.
