LLELA to host fall badge workshops

Published: Friday, September 28, 2012 3:59 PM CDT
LLELA is offering several fun activities this fall to help Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts accomplish objectives related to badges. While these classes are designed to meet Scouts' needs, members of other youth organizations or children simply interested in these topics are welcome to enroll. These dates are intended for individual children or very small troops to participate; groups of eight or more Scouts can schedule a workshop specifically for their group on a different date.

* Boy Scout Forestry Badge, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 6

* Brownie Girl Scout Bugs Badge, 10 a.m. to noon, Oct. 13

* Junior Girl Scout Animal Habitats Badge, 10 a.m. to noon, Nov. 10

* Boy Scout Bird Study Badge, 9 a.m. to noon, Dec. 1

It is usually impossible to accomplish all objectives related to a badge in only a few hours, but LLELA staff will include as much as possible in a series of hands-on, engaging activities. The fee for each badge workshop is $7 per participant; adults will pay only LLELA's regular $5/person admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required at 972-219-3930 or lisacole@unt.edu. Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes for outdoor activities, and bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle for each participant.

The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area is 2,000 acres of prairies, forests, and wetlands managed as a wildlife preserve by a group of agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the University of North Texas, the City of Lewisville, Lewisville ISD, and Texas A&M University. Our mission is to preserve and restore our native ecosystems and to provide and promote environmental education and scientific research. Learn more at www.ias.unt.edu/llela.
