Frisco residents win seats in Texas House of Representatives (updated)

Two Frisco men will become the city's first residents to serve in the Texas state legislature, according to election results released Tuesday.
Pat Fallon and Scott Turner were elected to positions in the Texas House of Representatives, with Fallon winning the District 106 seat and Turner winning the District 33 seat. Fallon, a Republican, won his race against Libertarian candidate Rodney Caston, and Turner, also a Republican, won against Libertarian candidate Michael A. Carrasco.
For Fallon, a former member of the Frisco City Council, being named to the Texas House was somewhat expected but still welcome news.
"It's interesting, because when you live in a very red, Republican area, it seems to be pretty much in the books for you," Fallon said, "But when you hear the results, it's still a relief, and it certainly put a warm smile on my face for sure."
Fallon added that he was very happy the eastern portion of Denton County, which is represented by the newly created House District 106, would now have a representative in Austin.
"I'm really glad we went through this race, but I'm also really glad it's over," he said. "It's going to be the first time the eastern part of Denton County has a representative from the area. I'm really glad we're going to have representation -- I'm excited about it and can't wait to get to work in January."
Turner won the House District 33 seat, which encompasses areas of Collin and Rockwall counties, with about 85.34 percent of the vote. In that race, 50,507 voters submitted their ballots for Turner and 8,675 voted for Carrasco.
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to serve the people of House District 33 -- it's a humbling experience and I'm honored to have this opportunity," Turner said. "I'm looking forward to going down and doing good work in Austin with honesty and integrity, and I hope to make as big of an impact as I can for my constituents."
Turner also said the process of meeting his constituents as well as residents from across the state was an experience he'll never forget.
"It was a great, great opportunity to meet so many wonderful people in the district and learn so much about the families and individuals that make up this great state," he said. "Thank you to all the voters and supporters who have stood by me during my campaign. I really appreciate the efforts and sacrifices others have made helping me during this journey."
Fallon and Turner will be sworn into office on the first day of the Texas legislative session, Jan. 8.
