Police in two Collin County cities are searching for a man they believe has taken part in multiple robberies in McKinney and Frisco.
Two incidents took place Thursday in McKinney, and police believe the man is also the individual who robbed the Frisco Costco located at 1220 Dallas Parkway on Oct. 31.
McKinney Police Department Deputy Chief Kim Malolepszy said the man showed increased aggression in the Thursday incidents.
At about 2 p.m. Thursday, McKinney police say the suspect, described as a white man in his mid-50s, robbed an elderly couple sitting in their car in the parking lot of the U.S. Post Office on North Central Expressway in McKinney.
The elderly couple said the man brandished a handgun and demanded their money. When the man was unsuccessful in obtaining the couple's money, he fled in a gray van, they said.
A second incident was reported Thursday about three hours later at the Subway restaurant located at 1521 N. Custer Road in McKinney. Police say the suspect again revealed a handgun and demanded money. His efforts were successful this time, as he left with an undetermined amount of money.
Malolepszy said investigators have linked him to other robberies in the area.
"Right now we believe he's been involved in five robberies, possibly even more," she said. "We believe he's the suspect in the Frisco Costco robbery based on descriptions of that individual obtained by investigators. At this time we believe he's acting alone."
McKinney police describe the man as being about 6 feet tall and 250 pounds with gray or "salt and peppered" hair.
Malolepszy said individuals who have come into contact with the man have been clear that the vehicle he's driving is a gray van and not an SUV. The van features a square back end with separate doors on the rear.
"It's very important to emphasize the fact that he's armed and dangerous," she said. "Do not approach him. Either call the McKinney Police Department or 911. Somebody out there's going to recognize his picture."
Individuals with information on the suspect can call the McKinney Police Department at 972-547-2700 or Detective Paul Hardin at 972-547-2742.
