Skeeters clinch share of district title, move to within a win of perfect regular season

Mesquite has a way of making it look easy.
Their all-around dominance was once again on display on Friday as the Skeeters steamrolled Tyler Lee in a 51-9 victory at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
Mesquite remains undefeated on the season, improving to 9-0. They also moved to 5-0 in 12-5A, clinching at least a share of the district championship. Even with a slip-up, the Skeeters would still be the top seed in the playoffs over Horn (4-1) due to their head-to-head win.
The Skeeter combination of quarterback Alex Cooper and wide receiver Rashard Higgins was almost unstoppable.
Cooper threw touchdown passes of eight and 30 yards to Higgins in the first quarter to take control with an early 14-0 lead.
The Red Raiders (1-7, 0-4) have struggled all year long but they do not go out without a fight and they closed to within 14-6 on a touchdown run by Marcus White.
Cooper and Higgins hooked up for a third time, this one a 30-yarder midway through the second quarter, but Tyler Lee hung around and was in striking distance at halftime when Lumi Kaba's 38-yard field goal closed the gap to 22-9.
It was all Mesquite from that point.
Cooper threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Junior Session and then hooked up with Jordan Bracy for the longest play of the night, an 80-yard scoring strike that made it 37-9.
The Skeeters tacked on a couple more scores in the fourth quarter, with Christian Watson and C.D. Reddick each adding short touchdown runs to provide the final margin.
