Longview takes out frustrations against North Mesquite

Published: Monday, October 29, 2012 12:12 AM CDT
In the years that Longview has been matched up in the same 5A district as the Mesquite ISD schools, they have racked up victory after victory.

But this season has been different.

The Lobos string of district dominance has come to a crashing halt with losses to Mesquite and Horn putting them in the unusual position of being 2-2 in 12-5A and on the playoff bubble.

With that weighing on their mind, the last thing Longview was going to allow to happen was for their postseason hopes to be further damaged by suffering a sweep at the hands of the MISD teams.

Longview scored early and often, never letting the Stallions get back in the game on its way to a 52-3 victory on Friday at Lobo Stadium.

The Lobos (5-3) move into a tie for third place with Rockwall at 2-2, while North Mesquite (2-6) saw its playoff hopes take a major hit in falling to 1-3.

Longview was dealt a blow early in the season when starting quarterback Bivins Carraway was lost with an injury, but Dezmond Chumley showed on Friday just how far he has come.

He got the scoring going with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Antonius Sanders, but he was far from finished. He added a scoring pass to Colin Jeter and a 41-yarder to Dorian Leonard to make it 21-0.

For good measure, Chumely threw a 14-yard scoring strike to Justin Spady to stretch the advantage to 28-0 in the second quarter.

Chumley deferred to the ground game from that point, as Tory White scored before halftime on a short touchdown run and L'Darrius Peterson did the same in the third quarter to make it 42-0.

Longview added some insurance in the fourth, with a field goal and a scoring run by Damian Russell.

Juan Mendez kicked a 30-yard field goal to get North Mesquite on the scoreboard with the final points of the night.
