11-5A FOOTBALL STANDINGS
Quick look: This season has been full of surprises to this point. That is namely South Garland, which continues to roll along after last week's solid win over Rowlett to improve to 4-0.
The Colonels will play their biggest game of the season on Friday when the meet Garland in a battle for the top spot in 11-5A. The Owls have rebounded from a tough start to the season in non-district play by winning all three district games, including an impressive come-from-behind victory over Sachse on Friday.
The Mustangs have come upon some rough times since their 5-0 start, having lost two of their last three games. Sachse will get a break this week with a bye but its 2-2 record suddenly puts their playoff standing in a precarious position.
The Rangers have another chance to prove they are for real on Thursday when they meet Rowlett at Williams Stadium.
The Eagles fell to 0-3 in district play with a loss to South Garland last week, but they are not in uncharted waters. Rowlett has made the playoffs in each of the last seven years, and in 2009, they bounced back from an 0-3 start to win their final four games and advance to the postseason.
Lakeview had one of the biggest upsets of the season when it knocked off Sachse but has not been able to capitalize on that momentum as it goes after its first playoff berth since 1995. If the Patriots want to break that streak, they have a must-win situation on Friday when they take on North Garland.
