10-4A FOOTBALL STANDINGS
Quick look: Highland Park seized control of the district race this past week with its 41-21 victory over West Mesquite.
The Scots, who are 4-0, have victories over their other top contenders in Poteet and West Mesquite, which would give them the tiebreaker edge at season's end.
The Wranglers slipped to 3-1 in 10-4A play and are tied with the Pirates for second place. Both teams are still in good shape for a playoff berth, but they cannot afford to slip up before they meet in an end-of-the-season tilt.
Newman Smith knocked off North Forney while surging Forney, who has the look of a playoff team the last two weeks, took care of business against winless Terrell.
The Jackrabbits will have a good chance to take over sole possession of the fourth spot in district play. While they will be heavy favorites against North Forney, Newman Smith will face a tough test against a West Mesquite team hungry to get back to the right path after last week's loss.
Poteet will also be a big favorite when it travels to take on Terrell, while Highland Park will look to maintain its perfect district record against a Carrollton Creekview team that is desperate for a win to get back into the playoff race.
