Three interview for Flower Mound town manager job
By Chris Roark, croark@starlocalnews.com
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Mark Wise said Wednesday that the Flower Mound Town Council has interviewed three candidates for the next town manager.
Harlan Jefferson, the previous town manager, was fired Oct. 8 as the council wished to go in a different direction regarding economic development and customer service strategies.
On Nov. 5, the council approved a contract in the amount of $17,500 for the services of SGR Executive Search, a firm to help find candidates.
“These candidates are well-known,” Dixon said. “We’re talking about cities and people who are easily recognizable in the city administration world.”
SGR Executive Search went through a database to compile a list of candidates, factoring in several attributes such as certifications, qualifications, experience and management skills.
"One of the biggest things we're looking for is someone with a strong economic development background," Wise said. "I, personally, would like to find someone who fits into the organization and someone who has a lot of experience. Someone who can step in and hit the ground running. So far, everyone seems like a strong candidate, and I think any of them could fit right in."
Based on the attributes the council is looking for, the firm narrowed the pool of candidates to three. Then, an extensive review took place.
“We’re taking this seriously,” Dixon said. “I would match this process with any corporate executive search I’ve ever seen.”
Wise said the council will likely conduct another round of interviews with some of, if not all of, the candidates Sunday and/or Monday.
"We're anxious to find someone as soon as possible," Wise said. "We don't want to throw just anyone in there, but we would like to have this complete sooner rather than later. It depends on how the second round of interviews goes."
Dixon said he is pleased with the quality of candidates the council has interviewed.
“We have talked to some top-notch individuals,” Dixon said. “Because of the quality of the people we have interviewed, once the council says that this is the person, I’m OK with us going forward quicker rather than later.”
Dixon said after the council makes it choice, the negotiation process will begin.
Wise said he isn't sure if there will be a third round of interviews.
"After the second round, we should know with more certainty," Wise said.
