Lewisville chamber to host community showcase
By Heather M. Goodwin, hgoodwin@starlocalnews.com
For residents who have wondered what their hometown has to offer, the chamber of commerce will host an event to give people a taste of Lewisville.
The Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce will present the 2012 Community Showcase from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lewisville High School Cafeteria. The free event will feature The Medical Center of Lewisville health and safety fair, The Raising Cane's taste of Lewisville, the Lewisville police and fire department and local businesses.
"We're really excited for this event. It's our one true community event," said Erin Carney, events and communications director for the chamber. "We like that it's being held at LHS because with the new buildings, it's a great opportunity for residents to see the changes and see the great businesses and restaurants Lewisville has to offer."
"This is open to any business in Lewisville. It's also open to Lewisville residents who own businesses in surrounding cities," Carney said. "It's really a chance for people to see Lewisville all in one spot."
The health and safety fair will include health screenings by hospital personnel and restaurants will give free samples to attendees. Carney said the showcase has a little bit of everything. She said it's a great event for families, senior citizens, children and everyone in between.
Businesses interested in having a booth at the showcase have until Monday to sign up. Two types of booths are being offered to suit exhibit needs. Each 8 foot by 8 foot booth includes a draped back and side walls, one skirted table with two chairs and one-line business identification booth sign. Booths will be assigned on a first come-first-paid basis. A regular booth is $250 for chamber members and $500 for non-members. A signature booth, which gives the vendor priority placement in high traffic areas, is $400 for chamber members and $700 for non-members. Carney said no reservations will be made without payment.
Exhibitors are responsible for setting up an "attractive display" no later than 10 a.m. the day of the expo. Complete breakdown of exhibits will be between 3:01pm and 4 p.m. Saturday. A $100 fee will be charged in the event of an early breakdown. Exhibitors are responsible for all items in their booths during open exhibition hours. There must be a staff representative at the booth at all times during expo hours. There is a one business limit per booth.
Taste of Lewisville is sponsored by Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers. There is no charge for restaurant booths. Participants must be a member in good standing with the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce. There are only 15 booths available. Exhibitors are required to have samples available during the showcase times. Each exhibitor must also comply with the Lewisville Health Department regulations.
