November is Diabetes Awareness Month at local optometrist
By Roy
Plano, TX -- According to the American Diabetes Association, 25.8 million children and adults in the United States alone have diabetes. That's 8.3% of the population.
People with diabetes are at increased risk for eye complications and most people with diabetes will get some form of retinopathy, a disorder or deterioration of the retina. People with diabetes also have a higher risk of blindness than people without diabetes. The earlier these problems are diagnosed, the more successful the treatments can be.
To aid in this fight, your community optometrist, Dr. Deborah Moon and Dr. Stacy Turner of Lakeside Vision & Optical, is joining with optometrists across the country to raise awareness of this problem and its treatability. Throughout November, Drs. Moon and Turner will be providing a variety of educational and awareness building efforts for patients in the hope of diagnosing this disorder before it affects their sight.
Also during the month of November, Lakeside Vision & Optical will be donating $1 to the American Diabetes Association for each Facebook like they receive on their website. "This is a fun way to raise money for a very important cause," reported Drs. Moon and Turner. "With more and more people utilizing Facebook as a socialization and communication tool, we think this is a great way to raise awareness and money for this important cause."
Drs. Moon & Turner and the staff at Lakeside Vision & Optical are available for diabetes eye exams throughout the month of November and throughout the year.
