The Celina Association of Renaissance Excellence is holding a Boosterthon Fun Run to raise funds for various projects that will benefit Celina students and schools.

Students who choose to participate will run laps on the track behind the Celina Middle School. They will ask family and friends to pledge money for every lap they run.

For every $7 per lap pledge the student will receive a Boosterthon prize. For every prize given to a Celina child, Boosterthon will donate a similar prize to a children’s hospital.

Next week Boosterthon representatives will go into classrooms and speak about teamwork and building character, among other subjects.

“The whole goal is to help raise funds for the school and to make an impact. We want to make sure we are changing the world through a positive influence,” Jerry Channell said. He is one of the Boosterthon representatives that led assemblies on Monday in the elementary and intermediate schools.

The Boosterthon theme this year is “On the road to good choices.”

Each child participating in the fun run will receive a t-shirt and other prizes will also be given for various levels of achievement in gathering pledges.

Also, 10 percent of funds raised by each child will go to the child’s teacher for class supplies.

C.A.R.E. has been raising funds to benefit Celina schools and students for more than 20 years. The group raises funds for scholarships or for needed equipment in the classroom, such as iPads for math classes.

Students will be bringing home packets of information about the second annual C.A.R.E. Boosterthon.
