After a busy weekend of tournament play, Mesquite could relax in the second half on Tuesday as it had a 44-30 victory over The Colony well in hand.

The Skeeters (9-7) opened an early six-point lead and then used an 11-4 run to take a commanding 28-15 lead at halftime.

Mesquite held the Cougars to four points in the third quarter, as well, making sure that a small, late charge by The Colony meaningless.

The Skeeters did not have any player in double figures, but featured several different scorers, led by Chelsea McHenry with nine points and Briana Caro and Viershanie Latham with eight each.

North Mesquite was not as fortunate on Tuesday as it slipped to 3-9 with a 54-48 loss to Grand Prairie. Taylor Carraway had 13 points and Racheal Malone added nine for the Stallions.

The three Mesquite ISD teams have one final chance for a tune-up later this week before 12-5A play starts next week.

Horn, which improved to 10-3 with an overtime win over Allen on Tuesday, will host Mansfield Timberview on Friday, while Mesquite will play at Seagoville and North Mesquite will be on the road at Royse City on that same night.

District play will get going on Tuesday with an early showdown when the Jaguars play on the road at Rockwall (10-4). The Skeeters will face Longview at home while the Stallions will host Rockwall-Heath.
