In 2004, when Los Angeles songwriter Gary Lee decided to record a demo version of a new Christmas song, he turned to Paul Osborn of Audio Dallas, a trusted producer and an old friend.
The professional crew that Osborn hired included Leona Rupert, a popular studio musician and lay director, well known for her performances at the Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano.
“Leona was a perfect choice for the recording,” said Lee. “She has a tremendous vocal range, and like all great musicians, she possesses an innate ability to interpret scores, making them better than the way they were written.”
Unfortunately for Lee, a long-term illness sidetracked the project, which kept it sitting on the shelf for eight years. When he decided to upload the song to YouTube, a news outlet in Delhi, India picked up the video version immediately.
“That was only one of the pleasant surprises,” said Lee. “It has helped us to reestablish connections with old music business contacts, and their response has been very positive.”
The slide show accompanying Santa Let Me Have My Way features photographs taken in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Greater Los Angeles.
