McKinney student among finalists in singing competition
Schmidt competition honors top local singers

Three students were honored recently at the William E. Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition, which was hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas on Dec. 8, 2012. Entering its 20th year, the competition is open to talented sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school.
Senior David Roorda of Richmond, Texas, finished first while Sarah Clementine Mire, a junior from Wolfforth, Texas, and Sarah Holevinski, a junior from Spring, Texas, finished second and third, respectively.
Remaining finalists included Skyler Dykes of Topeka, Kan., Nathaniel Eggen of Spring, Texas, Sydney Frodsham of McKinney, Texas, Manasa Kanukurthy of Austin, Texas, Vineel Mahal of Friendswood, Texas, Victoria Minton of Crowley, Texas, and Brandon Moore of Houston, Texas.
Encouragement awards were given to Vineel Mahal and Shannon Murray of San Antonio, Texas. Manasa Kanukurthy was awarded the prize for Most Promising Sophomore.
Cash prizes consisted of $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000 for the top three performers and $100 prizes for each special award and all the finalists.
