HV Resolution Run to take advantage of trails

Published: Friday, December 21, 2012 2:24 PM CST
In an effort to increase safety and take advantage of the city, the fifth annual Highland Village Resolution Run will be held in a new location.

The city of Highland Village and the Highland Village Parks Foundation will host the 2013 Resolution Run Jan. 12 at its new location, which allows most of the event to take place on the city's trail system, avoiding some of the high traffic areas the course previously crossed.

The start line for the race will be Briarhill Middle School. Race day registration and late packet pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. The 5K race begins at 9 a.m. with the 2K dog run/walk following at 9:05 a.m.

"The old location was right near The Shops at Highland Village. It was a high traffic area and cars would get backed up for 30 minutes - that wasn't a positive impact for the event," said CeCe Clemens, spokesperson for Medical Center of Lewisville, one of the major sponsors of the race. "This year, the majority of the race is using the trail system. It will keep traffic off the main roads."

Early bird registration is available online at www.terrafirmaracingtickets.com until Saturday and includes a long sleeve race tee. The cost is $25 for the 5K and includes chip timing ($18 for students 19 and under) or $25 for the 2K dog and partner entry. Participants with dogs are encouraged to register for the 2K as trail width is limited in areas and dogs could present a hazard to 5K runners.

Registration after Saturday, including race day registration, is $30 for the 5K and includes chip timing ($20 for students 19 and under) or $30 for the 2K dog and partner entry. The T-shirt is not guaranteed with registrations after Saturday.

Parking will be available at Briarhill Middle School, 2100 Briarhill Boulevard. Race day registration and late packet pickup will be located just north at McAuliffe Elementary, 2300 Briarhill Boulevard, which is the location of the finish line. Race packets can be picked up the day before the event at The Robert and Lee DuVall Center, 948B Highland Village Road, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

"There will be a separate course for people with dogs because the path isn't very wide. You can walk the 5K, but if you bring a pet you will be completing the 2K," Clemens said. "If want to do the competitive 5K, you should not bring a dog."

Clemens said the race will include of mix of runners and walkers.

At the 2012 run, nearly 500 people participated in the race, and organizers are expecting the same numbers.

"We're planning for at least 500," Clemens said. "We're basing that on how popular the race has always been."

Proceeds from the 2013 Resolution Run benefit the city of Highland Village Parks and Trail Systems. The trail system will ultimately include more than 20 miles of trails, connecting homes to schools, retail developments, municipal facilities, and other areas of interest within Highland Village.

Platinum Sponsors of the event include Medical Center of Lewisville, High Village Parks Foundation, Terra Firma Racing, ABC Pest Control and the city of Highland Village.
