Allen is ready to unveil the latest piece in its public art collection.

The city will dedicate "A is for Allen" by Gordon Huether during a Saturday ceremony starting at 10 a.m. The 12-foot x 16-foot sculpture is in the shape of the letter A and made of native stone, stainless steel, powder-coated steel and glass. It is at the intersection of Exchange Parkway and U.S. Highway 75.

The piece was commissioned last year.

A description of the sculpture posted to the city's website states that the stone used in its construction is similar to that found at the historic Collin County Old Stone Dam, which was used by steam locomotives more than 130 years ago.

Allen's public art collection is made up of 12 pieces and includes "Rail Ladder Fire" by Christopher Fennell, a sculpture at Fire Station #5 constructed from decommissioned ladders and old train rails, and "Oceano" by Roger White Stoller, a 6-foot tall bronze sculpture at the Allen Public Library.

Allen's complete public art collection can be viewed at http://cityofallen.org/facilities.aspx?page=list&search=1&CID=7.
