McKinney too much for Raccoons

Frisco played host to McKinney on Tuesday and dropped an 85-76 contest.

The Raccoons were outscored in each quarter but managed to stay within reach after a team-high 23 points from senior Kanetis Mays.

However, Mays was outdone by McKinney’s duo of Raynell Denny and Jonathan Shannon, who combined for 44 points on the night.

That offensive firepower gave McKinney a 40-36 advantage at the break. It was a lead that would widen in the third with Frisco getting outscored 18-14 in the frame.

Trailing by eight points heading into the final frame, the Raccoons scored 26 points over the last eight minutes to stay in contention. A 27-point quarter from McKinney ensured there would be no comeback though, with the Lions earning an 85-76 victory.

Frisco will go from one McKinney team to another tonight when the Raccoons take on McKinney North in a 7:30 p.m. home game.

Meanwhile, the Lions will look to continue their winning ways at Richardson Pearce at the same time.

Lady Titans rout Little Elm

The Centennial girls basketball team took on Little Elm Tuesday night and had little difficulty earning a win.

The Lady Titans stormed out to a 21-8 lead after the opening frame and things only got worse for the Lady Lobos from there, with Centennial eventually earning an 87-39 victory. Senior guard McKenzie Adams led the charge with a game-high 24 points, allowing Centennial to pick up the offensive pace in the second quarter and pour in 22 points for a 43-14 lead at the break.

With the Lady Titans scoring another 30 points in the third frame, six Centennial players reached double figures in scoring. Senior Saige Gibbs added 14 while sophomore Cydney Sutherland chipped in 11 of her own.

Leading Little Elm was junior Kiara Almonte and freshman Claudia Vaughn, who scored eight points apiece.

Centennial will look to stay on the winning track tonight with a 6:30 p.m. road game against Prosper.

Meanwhile, the Lady Lobos will try to rebound from Tuesday’s loss when they host Liberty in a 6:30 p.m. tip off tonight.
