Sidekicks undefeated after Thursday bout with RGV Flash

The Dallas Sidekicks remain undefeated after a rough game against the Rio Grande Valley Flash on Jan. 3 at the Allen Event Center. The game ended with a score of 5-2 in favor of Dallas. The Sidekicks had two powerplays and the RGV Flash had one.
The first quarter began with a shot on goal by the Dallas Sidekicks followed by a shot on goal for the RGV Flash; both missed. The game quickly became rough with a penalty made by the Sidekicks' Franck Mbemba, No. 34. With 4 minutes to go, the Dallas Sidekicks scored a goal made by Ricardinho, No. 79, making the score 1 Dallas Sidekicks, 0 RGV Flash. The head coach for the RGV Flash, Mariano Bollella, was issued a yellow card for protesting a call made on one of his players. The Dallas Sidekicks again raised the score with another goal made in the 14th minute of the first quarter by Jamie Lovegrove, No. 32. The first quarter finished out with a score of 2 Dallas Sidekicks, 0 RGV Flash.
The second quarter gained roughness when a RGV Flash player was kneed in the face in the 12th minute. The RGV Flash controlled the ball with many shots on goal. The first three shots made were saved by the Sidekicks' goalkeeper, Sagu, but the RGV Flash scored on the fourth attempt, raising the score to 2 Dallas Sidekicks, 1 RGV Flash. The Dallas Sidekicks regained control of the ball after they received a foul and then Sean Bellomy, No. 16, scored with 6 minutes left on the clock. After another attempt at a goal by RGV Flash, RGV Flash slammed Dallas Sidekicks player No. 23, Nick Stavrou, into the wall with no penalty. A hand ball was called on the Dallas Sidekicks after the ball rocketed into the stands. The RGV Flash received a penalty kick that they scored on, raising the ending score of the second quarter to 3 Dallas Sidekicks, 2 RGV Flash.

The third quarter started out with RGV Flash player Jose Bontti, No. 22, being pulled down by the neck, which resulted in a foul for the Dallas Sidekicks. The foul was quickly followed by a foul for the RGV Flash, their fifth. The RGV Flash took another shot on goal that was saved by Sagu. The Dallas Sidekicks got the ball and took two shots on goal as well, which the RGV Flash saved. At the end of the third quarter the score remained 3 Dallas Sidekicks, 2 RGV Flash.
The fourth quarter started when Dallas got a powerplay opportunity. The Sidekicks tried to take advantage of the opportunity but only got shots on goal. The Dallas Sidekicks received another powerplay, on which they scored, raising the score to 4 Dallas Sidekicks, 2 RGV Flash. The RGV Flash, receiving a powerplay after getting a penalty, kept the RGV Flash from making a powerplay goal. The game ended with another goal for the Dallas Sidekicks; the final score was 5 Dallas Sidekicks, 2 RGV Flash.
After the game, Lovegrove commented on the powerplays the RGV Flash received in the fourth quarter.
"To win the game. That was our only time we were gonna win the game. When they got rid of that 2 minutes, that 2 - 2 minutes that they had in the fourth quarter really set us up to go ahead and win the game," Lovegrove said. "We work hard on everything in practice, and today it paid off all the time for us and like you say, we had the 2 minutes, and the 2 minutes won us the game, I think."
The Dallas Sidekicks played on Jan. 5 at Rockford Rampage and won 11-4 and played away against the Chicago Mustangs Sunday night.
