It's almost time for fathers and daughters to dust off the dancing shoes again.

The Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Friday, Feb. 8 at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. The dance is open to fathers and their daughters, ages 4 to 12.

"This is a chance for some quality time for fathers and daughters," said Alyssa Smith, marketing specialist for the Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department.

This year the dance will be a masquerade ball. Masks are not required to attend the dance.

"We wanted something elegant where the girls could dress up and have fun. The masquerade ball seemed to fit the criteria," Smith said. "This theme allows the girls to add elegant masks to their outfits. It's a real opportunity to do something different with the extra pieces."

The dance is divided into two age groups to accommodate the number of attendees. The first session will be from 6-8 p.m. and is for daughters who are 4 to 8 years old. The second session is from 8:30-10:30 p.m. for daughters who are 9 to 12 years old. Fathers cannot reuse their ticket for the next session. A separate ticket must be purchased for each session.

"This is one of our most popular events," Smith said. "We have seen the number of participants grow each year."

The event will include music by Bill Cody's Party Time Productions as well as dancing, door prizes and light refreshments.

"Bill Cody is the same DJ we have used in the past. There will be a variety of slow songs for the dads to dance with their daughters and upbeat songs to get everyone dancing," Smith said.

Tickets are $15 per person, per session and are available at any recreation center, online at www.cityofmesquite.com/pard, or at the Parks and Recreation administration office located at 1515 N. Galloway Ave. Tickets purchased the day of the event will be $20. There will be a coat check service available for no extra charge.

Professional portraits by Holland Creations will also be available for an extra fee beginning at 5:30 p.m.

"The portraits will be printed and ready by the end of the event," Smith said. "We have order forms available online."

Windsor Florist will be on location for the purchase of long-stemmed roses. Smith said Windsor Florist will also offer a discount on corsages and boutonnieres purchased for the dance by Feb. 1.
