Highland Springs supports NETWORK Santa program

DALLAS, TX—From Etch-a-Sketches to fire trucks and baby doll strollers, children in need had a brighter holiday season due to the NETWORK of Community Ministries Santa Program.

Highland Springs, the Erickson Living retirement community, eagerly supported the Santa Program in December.

Sponsored by the community’s Philanthropy Committee, residents and employees collected six bins of new, unwrapped toys and gifts for toddlers through teens.

Led by Pastoral Ministries Coordinator Lil Smith, the Philanthropy Committee oversees Highland Springs programs such as the Student Scholar, Resident Care and Staff Appreciation Funds along with community-wide charitable projects.

Residents Bill Clark, Helen Adele Johnson and Wally Reed coordinated the Santa Program drive at Highland Springs. In 2011 alone, the NETWORK Santa Program provided books and toys for 2,300 children from 900 families.

“We felt strongly that it was important to assist those in the local area and appreciate the fact that the toys and gifts are distributed to families in the Richardson Independent School District,” described Mr. Reed.

The North Dallas-based retirement community supports the NETWORK in other ways during the year. Residents from the Woodshop Club constructed collection boxes that are set throughout the campus for clothing donations to the NETWORK.

“These clothes are used in part for those going on job interviews trying to get back on their feet,” stated Mr. Reed. “We believe in the work of the NETWORK as the organization is true to its mission.”

Opened in 1986, NETWORK is a community service organization charity that assists those in need, primarily those in North Dallas, Lake Highlands, Garland and Richardson, living within the Richardson Independent School District (ISD).  The mission of NETWORK is “caring, coaching and empowering our neighbors in need as they seek improved quality of life.”

Further information about the organization can be found at www.thenetwork.org.
