State Rep. Cindy Burkett (R-Sunnyvale) was elected Monday as vice chair of the Texas House Republican Caucus. The Republican Caucus is comprised of all Republican members of the Texas House of Representatives. The Caucus serves as a resource on legislative issues to Republican House members. It also helps coordinate messaging among members.
Burkett succeeds outgoing Vice Chair, Rep. Myra Crownover.
"I am proud but humbled by the trust that my fellow House Republicans have placed in me," Burkett said. "With so many critical issues facing the Legislature this year, I am excited to be in a position to do more to make life better and more prosperous for Texas families and businesses."
Burkett represents House District 113, which contains Balch Springs, Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett, Seagoville and Sunnyvale, and is serving her second term in the Texas House.
Burkett currently serves on the House Elections and Criminal Jurisprudence Committees, as well as on the Select Committee on Human Trafficking and Interim Response to Federal Sequestration Committee. Last year, Rep. Burkett was appointed by the Texas House Speaker to serve on the Energy Council. Burkett co-owns Highline Enterprises, a company that operates several Subway sandwich franchises.
