Think of the bellies!
By Anthony Tosie, atosie@starlocalnews.com
These articles are generally supposed to be about things going on around the area, but I'm going to buck that trend this week, because I have a bone to pick with Frisco.
You have too many restaurants.
Yeah, I said it: I see way too many restaurants while driving down the city's streets -- it's constantly making me hungry, even when I just ate.
Living in a much smaller town, I generally have to make due with fast food restaurants on occasion. If I lived in Frisco, I'm not sure I could do the same thing. There's a great restaurant on every corner it seems, like Mattito's Tex-Mex -- which is literally on the corner at Frisco Square.
It's not just like these are all the same style of restaurant, too. There's Sake Toro for sushi, Thai Green Village for Thai food, Platia Greek Kouzina for Greek food, Mariana's Taco Shop for Mexican or Kenny's Burger Joint for traditional food.
Am I leaving tons of restaurants out? Yes, but that's exactly my point.
I don't have the kind of money to be eating out at these places on a daily basis, but I do have the appetite to be eating out at these places on a daily basis. Thus my dilemma was created: how do I visit Frisco and not spend money at these restaurants every day?
Do I just close my eyes and pretend they don't exist?
Well, I don't think the Frisco police would appreciate me doing that while driving. I could always eat before driving to Frisco, but that would just make me disappointed when I see what my taste buds could have been enjoying instead.
So here's my plea to the developers of Frisco: stop building all these great restaurants! Why don't you all start building other stuff -- like, I don't know, a theme park? (And don't go making the theme food-based or anything like that.)
I don't know how all you Frisco residents do it. I'm a picky eater, but I know a good restaurant when I visit it.
There should probably be a clever ending to this column, but I'm about to drive to Frisco and my stomach is already rumbling, so I think I'll just stop writing now. If I don't, I'll just be thinking about food even more.
