People who like to drive around looking at homes decorated for the Christmas season can find no better town to do so than Coppell.

Many of the homeowners have gone all out again this year to let people know they have the Christmas spirit and to show it with elaborate yard decorations or colorful lights on their homes.

James Pugliese has been putting elaborate decorations and displays in front of his home at 345 Charleston Drive since his daughter, Toni, was a little girl.

For the past three years, he has had displays of lights, which dance to music. The music can be heard in front of his house or by tuning in on a radio at FM 88.9. Shows are every 30 minutes between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

“Now that my daughter is grown, I do it for other children,” he said. “It is so rewarding to see kids come up and to hear their ‘ooohs’ and ‘awes’ as they watch the show.”

The displays in front of his home show more than Christmas spirit. They also show he is very patriotic and civic minded.

In addition to a Santa dressed in camouflage, there are banners supporting the Coppell Police Department, Coppell Fire Department and military. Pugliese, who is mostly retired, works part time at MSigns where the banners are made.

He offers such displays at Halloween and Christmas each year and tries to have a little something new each year.

“Ordinarily, I spend $400 or $500 more each year,” he said.

However, he said he spent about $2,000 this year because of added computer needs and other needs.

How much will he spend next year?

“It depends on how much my wife will let me,” he said, laughing.

Pugliese also has some neighbors who have gone all out decorating for Christmas this year.

One neighbor, who lives around the corner on Magnolia Drive, has put thousands of LED white lights on a tall tree in front of the house.

Bob Arndt, who lives on the corner of Charleston and Magnolia, said, “When my son Matt saw the tree, he said we’re going to have to do more this year.”

The Arndts are one of several homes on Magnolia who have a gingerbread man and a large candy cane in front of the house.

This year, Matt put lights around a couple of trees in front of the Arndt house as well.

Homes all over Coppell have been brightly decorated with yard displays of various kinds, including on Armstrong Boulevard in Old Coppell, on Glen Lakes Drive on the east side of Coppell as well as in other parts of the city.
