Suspect in murder, shooting said victims acted suspiciously

The man arrested and charged with murdering a man in Flower Mound and shooting a man in Lewisville told police he felt the victims were acting suspiciously, according to police records.
Lewisville police arrested Anthony Tricong Huynh, 40, Saturday in connection with a shooting that took place early that morning in Lewisville.
Police believe he is also connected to the murder of a Justin man that took place Jan. 1 in Flower Mound. In that incident, Darnell Lamont White, 55, was shot in his vehicle, which was parked in a strip mall parking lot in the 500 block of Flower Mound Road. He died from his injuries the next morning.
According to reports issued by the Lewisville Police Department, police responded to a call at 2:30 a.m. Saturday regarding a man being shot in the hip as he was driving his Kia Soul in the parking lot of the Suburban Extended Stay, 1920 Lakepoint Drive in Lewisville. The man, 42-year-old Andre Williams, drove himself to the hospital for treatment.
Williams’ condition has not been released, but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police interviewed the victim and said he was shot for no apparent reason. Detectives reviewed video from the parking lot and identified the suspect as Huynh, who was a guest in the hotel.
Police searched Huynh’s room and located several items, including a Beretta 92FS 9mm handgun and multiple boxes of UMC ammunition.
Lewisville police arrested Huynh and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to an arrest warrant, Huynh told police he looked out his bedroom window at the hotel and saw Williams sitting in his car. Huynh then grabbed his flashlight and gun and went into the parking lot.
“The defendant reported that as the victim drove past the defendant, the defendant felt fear and fired shots at the vehicle,” the report states.
Huynh told police he then went back to his room to watch television.
Lewisville police contacted Flower Mound police once they determined Huynh’s vehicle matched the one Flower Mound police believed was used by the shooter in the Jan. 1 murder.
During an interview with Lewisville police, Huynh admitted to both shootings, police records state.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Huynh discussed the Jan. 1 murder.
He said he observed White sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of Target of FM 3040, where White worked. Huynh said he believed White was casing the store or customers/employees and was acting suspiciously.
The report stated that Huynh followed White as he left Target and followed him west on FM 3040 into Flower Mound. Huynh said he used his flashlight’s strobe feature, which police said may be the reason White pulled into the strip mall parking lot.
The report stated that Huynh pulled up next to White, and when White started to get out of his car, Huynh shot him because Huynh could not see his right hand. Huynh said he shot him several times.
“Mr. White worked at Target, got off work and was sitting in his car,” said Capt. Kurt Labhart of the Flower Mound Police Department. “That’s when Mr. Huynh thought Mr. White was casing the store. But at no time did we believe that Mr. White was involved in any criminal activity.”
Huynh told police he then drove back to his hotel and disposed of the 9mm casings. Police found one spent 9 mm casing in Huynh’s car.
The report also stated that Huynh told police he confronted the Lewisville victim because he also felt like he was acting suspiciously.
“His determination of what is suspicious may or not be to [others] but to him it was,” Labhart said.
The report stated that both of the victims are black, and Huynh is Asian. Huynh told police he has had more difficulty with black people being confrontational with him and following him around.
