Sunnyvale boys clinch playoff berth with win over Gunter

Sunnyvale has been playing some of its best basketball of the season recently and that trend continued on Tuesday with a 48-46 victory over Gunter.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 8-2 in 12-2A, clinch a playoff berth and remain within a game of district-leading Farmersville.
Sunnyvale got off to a slow start and trailed by six early on, but used a 18-8 run in the second quarter to take a 25-21 halftime lead.
The Raiders pushed the lead to eight through three quarters, and while Gunter made a late surge, they were able to hold on at the end.
Lawson Ayo scored 15 points and Stephen Kirven added 12 to pace the Sunnyvale offense.
The Raiders have a good opportunity to close the regular season strong, with games against Pilot Point and Caddo Mills, the bottom two teams in the 12-2A standings.
The Sunnyvale girls already knew they were locked into the second seed in the playoffs, but they will go in with a sour taste in their mouths after a 35-31 loss to Gunter on Tuesday.
The Raiders scored only four points in the first and third quarters and could not make up the difference at the end.
Sheridan Lewis scored nine points and Grace Goodhart added eight for Sunnyvale, who will face either Callisburg or Whitewright in the bi-district playoff round on Monday at 7 p.m. at Anna High School.
