Soccer: Coppell teams win district openers

Coppell kicked off the District 5-5A season on a positive note Friday as the Cowgirls (ranked No. 4 in the nation by the Elite Soccer Report) blanked Hebron (No. 13 nationally), 2-0.
Liat Evan and Kayla Peterson scored for Coppell, which continued Tuesday against Flower Mound (results not available as of press time) before heading on the road to face Marcus (No. 8) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Last Tuesday, the Cowgirls edged out Fort Worth Nolan, 3-2. Goals were recorded by McKenna DeLong, Sarah King and Jackie Nichols. Maggie Kleiser and Gwennie Puente scored for Nolan.
After surrendering a pair of goals in a win over McKinney Boyd, Coppell's boys soccer team picked it up on the defensive end last week notching a pair of victories via shutout.
On Friday, the team (ranked No. 8 in nation by the Elite Soccer Report) opened its district campaign with a 2-0 win over Hebron.
Last Tuesday, the Cowboys blanked Plano Sr. in their final tune-up, 4-0.
Coppell faced Flower Mound on the road Tuesday (results not available as of press time) before hosting Marcus at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The match is "Fill the Stands Night" where the first 100 students receive free entry.
