Rowlett Chamber to honor community members, businesses at banquet
By Kenny Green, kgreen@starlocalnews.com
Local business and community leaders will have the spotlight turned on them in March.
The Rowlett Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual awards banquet on March 7 at the Hyatt Place Dallas/Garland, 5101 N. President George Bush in Garland. The event will begin with cocktail service at 6 p.m. and the dinner and program at 7 p.m.
"We chose them to host the event because they are chamber members. We held the event there last year and it was a very good event," said Carol Prano, chamber membership services director. "We always try and do business with chamber members as much as possible."
"We chose to call the event that because it signifies what is happening in Rowlett with all the transportation issues that have come together recently," Prano said. "We believe it exemplifies what Rowlett is right now."
The chamber will present its annual awards as part of the program portion of the evening.
"The awards banquet is held each year so the chamber can honor those people that have worked long and hard to help Rowlett to become a better place to live and work," Prano said. "It's really our chance to give something back. The chamber awards have become highly prized awards."
All of the award recipients were initially nominated by members of the chamber. The top three vote-getters receive a letter notifying them they are finalists for an award and are invited to attend the banquet.
"We will announce the results at the banquet itself," Prano said.
Prano said the chamber is seeing an increase in interest from businesses about joining.
"There are more and more people becoming interested in joining the chamber," Prano said. "[The tollway and DART rail] are bringing people into our city to talk to us about Rowlett. We expect to see a big growth in the business community as a result."
Prano credits the strength of the Rowlett business community for the chamber's continued success.
"Rowlett always has had a great business community. Our business community here really gets it. They really do support each other. They understand that if everyone succeeds it's good for them and the city," Prano said.
