Marcus' hockey team snapped a three-game losing skid in the Varsity West Division of the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League Thursday as the Marauders (3-3) knocked off Midlothian, 5-3.
The teams were knotted in a defensive battle with just two goals scored total in the first two periods.
But the offenses erupted in the third period when Marcus outscored Midlothian, 4-2.
Garrett Cupps opened the scoring in the third for the Marauders before Matt Brauch, Connor Caldwell and Michael Kobus closed the contest with three unanswered goals. Peter Hatton found the back of the net in the second period to go with an assist, while Connor Clay (2), Sam Cukr and Caldwell also had helpers. Marcus goalie Kamen Kessler made 39 saves in net.
Denton County (3-3), meanwhile, won for the second week in a row by topping Frisco, 4-3, in overtime.
Destry Kittman netted the game-winner in overtime for the Spartans. Other scorers for Denton County included Andrew Johnson, Dylan DeRozario and Brad Duggan. Assists were recorded by Johnson, DeRozario and Devin Howard. Darryll Smith picked up the win in net with 20 saves.
Marcus continues at 7:15 p.m. Thursday against Birdville at the Nytex Sports Center in North Richland Hills. Next up for Denton County is Plano Senior at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco.
