Ottimmo learning center helps prepare students for college
By Dan Eakin, deakin@starlocalnews.com
At first, Kanan Shah wanted to help her son, Kavi, do better in school, graduate and be prepared for college.
Then she realized there were a lot of other kids who also needed help in reaching their academic goals.
So, with the help of her husband Vinay Shah and others, she founded the Ottimmo, a learning center located at 860 Hebron Parkway, Suite 203 in Lewisville, only a few yards west of the Carrollton city limits.
The founder said Ottimmo means “excellence” in Italian, and the center’s goal is to create an excellent environment for the students.
All instructors and staff members have had many years of experience in various education fields.
Ottimmo offers SAT/ACT Power Prep programs that are designed to maximize students’ time and provide successful test-taking strategies through both individualized and small group sessions. Ottimmo offers English and math enrichment programs and offers a curriculum designed to improve critical thinking skills essential for college students.
The center also has a public speaking instructor who works with elementary students to give them the skill and confidence they need to write effective speeches and to speak in front of an audience.
A skilled counselor is also on hand to assist both parents and students in the college application process, including resume building, completing paperwork, writing essays, securing scholarships and tracking extra-curricular activities.
The Shahs live in Coppell and wanted Ottimmo to be a member of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce. Last week, several members of the Coppell chamber went to Ottimmo for a ribbon cutting, to present Kanan Shaw with a membership plaque and to welcome Ottimmo as the newest member of the chamber.
