12-5A GIRLS SOCCER: North Mesquite, Horn pick up victories

If the first week of the 12-5A slate is any indication, it is going to be one wild season.
After just two matches, five of the seven district teams have a regulation victory and another has a shootout win, leaving six teams within two points of one another at this early juncture.
North Mesquite suffered a shootout loss in its opener against Rockwall but was in no mood to suffer a similar fate on Tuesday as it posted a 3-0 victory over Mesquite at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
Horn, which had a bye on the opening day of 12-5A play, picked up where it left off in non-district action, improving to 10-1-1 on the season with a 2-1 victory over Rockwall-Heath.
The Jaguars (1-0-0-0, 3 points) struck first when Jordan Kondikoff scored off an assist from Brooke Hill in the 31st minute.
Horn made it 2-0 just before halftime when Courtney King scored an unassisted goal.
The Hawks would shave the deficit to one with a second-half goal but were unable to net the equalizer against goalkeeper Bayleah Hill and the Jaguar defense.
With its win, Horn is in a four-way tie for second place with Rockwall-Heath, Mesquite and Longview, which edged Tyler Lee on Tuesday, 1-0.
The Jaguars will play Tyler Lee, the only district team without a point thus far, on Friday and then play at Rockwall on Tuesday.
The Skeeters will try to bounce back from their loss with games against Rockwall and Tyler Lee this week.
The Stallions have a bye on Friday and then will return to action on Tuesday with a home game against Longview at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
