Wrestling: Allen puts on record performance at state

Published: Tuesday, February 26, 2013 5:05 PM CST
The Metroplex was well-represented Thursday-Saturday at the UIL State Championships in Austin as multiple competitors returned home with medals.

But as has been the case in each of the past four years, nobody could stack up to Allen as a team.

The Eagles won the team title for the fourth consecutive year and in the process set state records for points (251.5) and first-place finishers (six).

Allen finished ahead of El Paso Franklin (79) and Flower Mound (66.5), while Canyon Randall (95) took the top spot at the 4A level. Rounding out the local squads in 4A were Creekview in eighth (54), The Colony in ninth (53) and Newman Smith in a tie for 67th.

Following Flower Mound on the boys side were Carroll in 18th (30), Marcus in 20th (28.5), Hebron in 30th (18), Coppell in 35th (13) and Lewisville in 63rd (3).

In girls action, R.L. Turner took seventh (42.50), with Lewisville in ninth (38) and Coppell in 22nd (25). In 4A, Creekview tied for 33rd (9).

The Jaguars were paced by first-place finishes from Dylan Akers (126), while brother Scott won silver (145). Rounding out the medalists for Flower Mound was Drake Dudley in second (160).

For Coppell, Daniel Murillo took fourth (132), while Hebron's Patrick Davis (120) finished third.

Marcus' Dylan Ross notched fourth (152) where Carroll's Michael Basler earned fifth. Results were flipped at 195 with Cody Lindberg taking fourth for the Dragons and Marcus' Brandon Litten earning fifth.

Lindberg becomes the fourth Carroll wrestler to place at state in consecutive years and knocked off a placer and finalist from last year in the process. Basler took down the No. 1 seed en route to fifth.

In 4A, Creekview received a second-place finish from Jorge Santos (106), third from Isaac Salinas (152) and fifth from Tanner Jones (138), while The Colony's Dominick Thornhill won silver (182) and Colton Stowe took bronze (132).

On the girls side, Creekview's Leah Olguin placed sixth (119).

Heiley Garcia led the girls effort for R.L. Turner in 5A by winning gold at 138, while Enya Hernandez (102) picked up fourth just in front of Lewisville's Tommi Goodman in fifth.

Coppell's Cara Romeike (119) also earned fifth.
