Do-or-die for Sidekicks
The Dallas Sidekicks face a must-win scenario today at 7:30 p.m. from the AEC in their PASL divisional playoff series against Rio Grande Valley.
Dallas was dropped in overtime, 5-4, Sunday against the Flash in the first leg of the series.
Sidekicks midfielder Ricardinho registered a hat trick, but the Flash's Hector Vallejo converted the game winner in overtime. If Dallas ties the series, a 30-minute mini-game will be held at the end of tonight's game with the winner on to the Ron Newman Cup semifinals March 10 in San Diego.
Kotecki fourth at state
Lovejoy's Thomas Kotecki led a group of five Leopards grapplers that competed Feb. 21-23 at the Class 4A State Tournament in Austin.
Kotecki (195 pounds) placed fourth.
Kotecki was 3-2 overall, dropping a 6-2 decision to eventual state champion Beau Henson of Canyon Randall in the semifinals.
Rounding out the Lovejoy slate, Kyle Romano (220) and Chase McAlister (285) each went 1-2 in their 16-man bracket while Aaron Otiker (132) and Jonathan Otiker (152) both finished at 0-2.
The Leopards placed 30th in the team standings.
State swim caps Crews' career
Lovejoy senior Sydney Crews culminated her varsity career in Austin on Saturday at the Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships.
Crews represented the Wet Leopards in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing 13th (1:00.28). That was seventh-tenths of a second better than what Crews swam in Friday's prelims where she was also 13th.
Allen golf places fourth
The Allen boys golf team took to the links at the ConCan Country Club Friday and Saturday, coming away with a fourth-place finish at the Northside ISD Boys Classic.
The event was won by Katy Seven Lakes (609).
The Eagles (comprised of Drew Miller, Camden DeBonis, Jake Clark, Grant Haka and David Holt) finished 31 strokes back. Miller, with a two-day score of 154, and DeBonis (155) also equated themselves well individually with respective ties for eighth and 12th place.

Up All Night tennis returns
Allen tennis will host its 7th annual Up All Night fundraiser April 26.
The event operates just as the title suggests with players staying up throughout the evening and engaging in a variety of competitions in an effort to raise money for the program and the Foundation for Allen Schools. Formerly reserved for just varsity players, Allen ISD middle school players were brought into the fold last year.
Hall of Honor nominations
Though the Allen ISD began enshrining people into its Hall of Honor when Eagle Stadium opened, the district is still seeking future nominees.
Candidates must be ex-athletes, employees, teams or supporters of AISD. They must have graduated from Allen at least 10 years ago and demonstrated good character throughout their post-high school athletic career. If a nominee is deceased, a representative of his/her family may accept the honor.
Nomination forms can be found at: allenisd.org.
Nominations should include as much detail as possible to help choose the best candidates. The selection committee will name recipients at an annual AISD Hall of Honor banquet.
Tripucka joining Aggies
Allen senior punter Shane Tripucka will be joining Texas A&M as a preferred walk-on.
Tripucka had been on the Aggies' radar for some time as he attended a kicking camp in College Station over the summer. That gave A&M an advantage over Sam Houston State, where he was offered a scholarship, and preferred walk-on status at Texas, Texas Tech and Boston College.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder averaged 42 yards per punt in 2012 as part of an Eagles squad that won the Class 5A Division I State Championship.
