Through a horde of rush-hour traffic and a bridge reduced to only one lane, contenders armed with knowledge ventured out for the 15th annual Little Elm Friends of the Library Trivia Contest and Fundraiser Tuesday.
Team Little Elm Food Bank was named the winner of the 2013 Trivia Contest after answering almost all of the questions correctly from eight rounds of categories such as super trivia and entertainment. This year, a record 56 teams battled for the top spot at the annual event, which raises funds for the Little Elm Public Library.
"We're really a think tank at the food bank," joked Al Leistikow, team captain and Little Elm Area Food Bank director.
Competing for years in the contest, the team was forced to replace half of its members at the last minute, he added. Just after the first round, the LEAFB team placed on the top 10 leader board for the first time ever.
The group took home the trivia trophy and was given the grand prize of $500, which they immediately donated back to the library. Members included Leistikow, Robert Altizer, Lynn Elliott, Dani Elliott, Mike Hardesty, Diana Henderson, Bill Schoknecht and Luke Leistikow.
During the contest, awards were given out for "Best Costume" and "Most Spirited." "Best Costume" was given to team SS Minnow and team Average Joes snagged "Most Spirited." The 1/2 and 1/2 Raffle winner was James Dominy.
Raffles and a silent auction also provided entertainment throughout the night between rounds. The Little Elm Friends of the Library work throughout the year to prepare for the trivia contest, which is their largest fundraiser for the library.
