Dallas Christian charges into TAPPS state basketball tournament
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
Dallas Christian has put together a season to remember.
The Chargers, the TAPPS 2-4A champions, brought a 20-1 record into their state quarterfinal game on Tuesday.
But some of the shine would have been taken off their accomplishments if they would have fallen short against Parish Episcopal, a district foe it defeated just three weeks ago.
The Chargers (21-1) move on to the state semifinals where it will face Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill in the state semifinals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Mansfield Legacy High School.
TC-Cedar Hill is another familiar foe and is a team Dallas Christian has defeated twice in the last month.
Parish Episcopal was hoping to avenge an earlier 54-45 setback, but the Chargers asserted their dominance from the start, taking a five-point lead after one quarter and pushing it to 36-22 at halftime.
The second half was more of the game, as Dallas Christian pulled away to the 21-point win.
Alex Craig led the Chargers with 18 points, while Hayden Baker added 15.
The Chargers had been coming off a 52-38 win over Grapevine Faith Christian last Friday.
Dallas Christian seized control with a 17-4 run coming out of the gates and Grapevine Faith never got within single digits the rest of the way.
Cameron Martin scored 14 points and Dominique Weaver chipped in with 11 in the winning effort.
The Dallas Christian girls had their season come to an end on Friday with a 39-36 loss to Midland Christian in the area finals.
