11-5A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles crush North Garland to clinch share of district crown

A team should never celebrate until the final buzzer, but Rowlett could be excused for doing so a little early on Friday night.
The Eagles clinched a share of the 11-5A championship for the first time in more than a decade with a 68-9 rout of North Garland.
Rowlett improves to 10-1 in district play and can win the outright district championship on Tuesday with a win over Lakeview or a Naaman Forest loss to Sachse.
Sarah Salamah had 12 points, Taylee Alexander scored 11 and Lydia Williams chipped in with nine for the Eagles.
Sachse kept its hopes for third place alive on Friday with a 65-32 win over South Garland. Led by 22 points from Alexis Rene and 10 from Courtney Blankenship, the Mustangs came up big in the third quarter, using a 20-6 run to turn an 11-point lead into a 50-25 blowout.
Alexis Hill led the Colonels with 22 points.
The four playoff teams from 11-5A have been decided for nearly two weeks, but there is still going to be drama on the final day of the regular season on Tuesday.
Rowlett will clinch the top seed with a win over Lakeview, but a loss, coupled with a Naaman Forest victory over Sachse, would create a tie for the 11-5A top spot. The Eagles and Rangers would then have to flip a coin or have a play-in game to determine seeding.
If Naaman Forest loses and Lakeview wins, there will be a tie for second place, and it would also come down to tiebreakers. The same is true for if Lakeview loses and Sachse wins, thereby creating a tie for third place.
