Charles August Themar
Charles August Themar, July 27, 1925 to March 4, 2013.
Charles was born in McClure, Illinois to parents Irvin Oscar Themar and his wife Essie. Charles attended school in McClure, where he had an outstanding athletic career in track, basketball and baseball.

After graduating from high school in May 1943, Charles enlisted in St. Louis, Missouri, and was called to active duty in August 1943. He had his basic training, Army Special Training and Army Special Training in Fort Benning, Georgia. He also was rated as an expert marksman with the M1, GNR Carbine, LMG and 45 caliber pistol and the designation of Military Operational Specialty of Light Machine Gunner.

In April 1944 he was assigned to Company A, 385th Infantry of the 76th Division. He was part of the Rhineland Campaign, Central Europe Campaign and Ardennes Campaign. He was decorated with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct ribbons, one Overseas Service Bar and the Purple Heart for wounds incurred in the European Theater from which he was not expected to live.

He survived the wounds and was honorably discharged from the Army from the Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, on September 4, 1945, with his certificate of disability.

Charles attended Parks Air College and graduated with a degree in Aviation Operational Engineering from St. Louis University.

He and friend Bill Thatcher then went to Thomasville, Georgia, and operated a FBO known as Thomasville Aviation Enterprises.

In 1948 Charles moved to Dallas, Texas, and worked for the next 25 years for the Hooper Holmes Bureau, an insurance investigation agency, finally leaving that company as a VP and entered the real estate industry in Lewisville, Texas, in 1974.

Charles started as an agent with N.C. Jefferies company and then purchased the company from Mr. Jefferies, transforming it into an award winning ERA (Electronic Realty Associates) company, becoming an independent office and then operating as a franchisee with RE/MAX of Texas and RE/MAX International.

He served his profession through assisting in the development of the Lewisville Board of Realtors and additionally served as president of the Greater Lewisville Association of Realtors.

Charles was married to Jo Anne Springer in 1954 and is survived by three sons: Rex Seldon Themar, Mark August Themar and Charles Eric Themar. He had four grandchildren by birth, four grandchildren through marriage and a multitude of great-grandchildren.

In the later years of his life Charles was struck with Alzheimer's and on March 4, 2013, finally was freed from that debilitating disease to join his family and comrades in arms.

Charles will always be remembered as a kind, considerate and understanding man of strong convictions and will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 1:00 to 4:00p.m. at Lake Cities UMC, 300 Hundley Drive, Lake Dallas, TX 75065.

Services were arranged by Dalton and Son Funeral Home, Lewisville.
