Austin Elementary Showcase: they can do anything!

Second-grader at Austin Elementary teaches first-grader about electric circuits

Second- and third-grade learners at Austin Elementary recently proved that they truly can do ANYTHING, as they enthusiastically shared their accomplishments during the Second and Third Grade Enrichment Cluster Showcase. These young learners handled themselves with poise and grace as they greeted over 100 guests, including parents, school board members, district personnel, and visitors from across the district and the state.

Every Friday morning, the learners at Austin Elementary have the opportunity to spend an hour exploring an area of interest. This Enrichment Time, or E-Time as it is affectionately known, is just one component of The Schoolwide Enrichment Model at Austin Elementary. This model, developed by Dr. Joseph Renzulli, encourages learners to explore their interests, identify their strengths, develop their talents, and share their passions.

E-Time is an hour-long adventure filled with learning, laughter, excitement, and boundless energy!  During Enrichment Clusters, that learning is taken a step further, as small groups of learners dive deeper into an area of interest and work together to design and develop a product or service based on that interest area. Some of the second/third grade enrichment clusters included CSI Frenzy, Shock Your Socks Off, The Green Team, Austin Archeology Association, Emergency Responders, and so much more!  During the Showcase, these young learners demonstrated new skills, shared new learning, and shared their vision for a greener, more beautiful Austin Elementary.

While our second and third grade learners represented themselves beautifully at the Showcase, that was certainly not the end of the journey.  E-Time continues to delight our learners every week, and another round of Enrichment Clusters will begin in April.  This time, our youngest learners in kindergarten and first grade will share the spotlight, as they too learn to use their talents to give back to the community that has done so much for them.
