Allen city, school board election ballots finalized
By Andrew Snyder, asnyder@starlocalnews.com
The city of Allen will not hold an election this year as no challengers filed to run against incumbents Baine Brooks and Robin Sedlacek before Friday's deadline.
City secretary Shelley George said via email that she will present an item canceling the election to the Allen City Council at Tuesday's meeting, an action that would pull the city from a joint election contract with Allen ISD and Collin College, which both have contested elections.
Allen ISD has two school board seats on the ballot, and both are contested. Three candidates – Amy Gnadt, Ken Lento and Vatsa Ramanathan – are running for the seat of incumbent Lois Lindsey, who is retiring from the school board.
The Collin College board currently has one contested seat. Sam Roach will not run for another term, and three candidates – Jim Orr, Adrian Rodriguez and Buddy Minett – have filed to run for his seat. Two incumbents, Stacy Arias and Mac Hendricks, did not draw challengers.
The filing deadline for Andrew Hardin's seat on the Collin College board ends Monday. The extended deadline is because Hardin is running to finish the unexpired term of Brenda Goddell, who died of cancer in 2011. If elected, he would serve for two years. The normal board term is six years.
The Lovejoy ISD school board also has only one contested seat in this year's election. Incumbents Chad Collins and Robbin Wells will run unopposed, while Board President Ann Casey will be opposed by Brenda Rizos.
The city of Fairview has three city council seats and the office of mayor on the ballot. Ron Samuels and Frank O'Reilly, neither of whom are incumbents, are running unopposed, while Anton Mattli and Paul Hendricks are running against one another for the remaining council seat.
No current Fairview council members are running for their seat, though Darion Culbertson will run against Michael Pezzulli for mayor.
Early voting for the May 11 election begins April 29.
